Volunteer Opportunities for OSO!

Hey Science students!

Are you interested in event planning, getting involved or making contacts with other Science students across the county?! If you are then the Science Students' Association here at uOttawa has some great news for you!

The annual Ottawa Science Olympiad is coming up this winter on January 21st to 23rd and if you aren't familiar with this spectacular event, it consists of a three-day challenge that we host filled with science-related activities as well as other amazing events! OSO is a huge success every year and it can be some of the most fun you'll have during the entire school year. Teams from uOttawa not only compete against themselves but against teams from other Universities that come to visit! In the past we've had Carleton, McGill and Concordia join us but we'd love to see even more schools get involved because it's always great to meet new friends.

Team registration for OSO won't start later on in the year BUT if this captures your attention and you're interested in joining the SSA's OSO Committee now is your chance! This committee consists of eight seats reserved for two SSA executives, four SSA General Council members and two students such as yourselves. We've opened up these last two seats because the SSA always appreciates input from the general student population, especially when planning something as big and great as OSO, so it would be great to have you help us out!

Now how do you apply for this committee? Please send a cover letter to external@ssa-aes.com explaining why you'd be qualified for this committee and why you're interested in joining. At the moment we're looking for people who are seeking an extracurricular outlet in terms of event planning, logistics, and registration/communication. All cover letters must be sent by Wednesday, November 11th, at 6:00 p.m. to the above mentioned email address in order to be considered. Following this day, present members of the OSO Committee will get together and select the candidates.

If OSO sounds like a lot of fun but you don't have that much time to get involved now, don't worry! Other volunteer opportunities will open up once the registration periods begin and we'll be in touch with everyone again when that times comes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Julie (VP of External Affairs) or Melissa (VP of Social Activities) at external@ssa-aes.com and social@ssa-aes.com, respectively.

Thanks so much!
