SSA - Faculty of Science Joint Grant Fund

The SSA allocates several thousand dollars annually to students to help finance their participation in conferences, competitions and other scientific endeavours.  Applications are received throughout the year and are assessed by a review committee to help offset the cost of transportation, accommodation, event fees, etc.  The contribution to be awarded by the SSA is then matched by the Faculty of Science, doubling the amount of funds received by the applicant.

Application Criteria:

1)  Interested applicants must be undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Science.

2)  The event or cause must be scientific in purpose.

3)  The application must contain:

  • a one page letter outlining the event or cause for which the student is applying for funds
  • a budget detailing the specific costs associated with the activity in question, the applicant's other sources of funding, and the amount being requested from the SSA
  • copies of receipts, links to websites and/or relevant documents to justify the quoted costs.

4)  Applications must be submitted either electronically to president@ssa-aes.com or sent to the SSA office as a hard copy to the attention of the president.  They must be received at least 1 month prior to the event to allow time for processing.

5)  The successful applicant will be required to provide a brief report after the event takes place.  This report must highlight the successes of the event and describe how the experience benefited the applicant.

*The SSA may choose to profile its successful applicants through any of its media.
