SSA Summer Executive Positions

Can you be loud in a crowd?  Do you enjoy planning logistics for large-scale events?  Want to spice up your summer?  Look no further!

The Science Students' Association is currently accepting applications for its four Summer Executive Positions.  If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding volunteer experience this summer, this may be for you.

What is a Summer Executive?

The SSA appoints four Summer Executives to assist the elected Executive with the planning of 101 Week and Shinerama.  The successful candidates serve with the SSA from the 1st of May until early October when the SSA's General Council is elected.

What positions are available?

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and selecting 101 Week guides from the Faculty of Science, and works in conjunction with the VP Social throughout the summer.  He/she organizes their SFUO guide training, briefs the guides on their roles and responsibilities during the week, and schedules guides for each 101 Week event.

Shinerama Coordinator

The SSA Shinerama Coordinator's primary task is to organize all of Science's fundraising efforts for Shinerama alongside the Vice-President of Philanthrpoic Initiatives. The two will work closely together in planning fundraising events, coordinating volunteers, and liaising with the SFUO both throughout the summer and during 101 Week.

Logistics Coordinators (2 positions)

The Logistics Coordinators work closely with the VP Social in planning the specific details for each SSA 101 Week event.  Common duties during the summer included booking venues, arranging transportation, and purchasing required food, supplies, etc.  During 101 Week, they are responsible for transportation and setting-up of materials for each event.

IMPORTANT: Before applying, please read the section of the SSA Constitution outlining the specific functions and eligibility requirements for each position.  You can find this information HERE.

What is the typical time commitment required?

The hours required for each position vary throughout the summer, but as a general rule, the amount of work increases as 101 Week nears.  During the summer, meetings and events are held during evenings and weekends to accommodate those with day jobs.  During 101 Week, Summer Execs are expected to be available at all times and at all events (including late nights and early mornings).  In most cases, the positions allow for each exec to work around their own schedule.

Are the positions paid?

No; all Summer Executive positions are on a volunteer basis.

What's in it for me?

Serving as a Summer Exec is a opportunity to meet new people and develop a unique set of skills.  Although the positions are often time-consuming, the work is exciting and the end result is an action-packed week that will create fond memories for hundreds of incoming science students.
