Committees 2025-2026

The SSA holds standing committees that work on projects throughout the year. During the summer, only executives hold seats on committees and are elected by vote during the first meeting. Once the General Council is elected, the seats are reset and the committee members are re-elected, with the exception being the chair. VICE-PRESIDENT FINANCES

Name: Simon Yang

Year and Program: 4th year Biomedical Science
Role: My role as Vice-President of Finances is to oversee the financial operations of the Science Students' Association. I update the budget, write cheques and ensure that the SSA is transparent in all its financial operations.
Fun Fact: I’m playing junior hockey this year.

Year and Program: 4th Year Biomedical Sciences (Neuroscience)
Role: As VP Social, I am in charge of the planning and execution of social events for all science students during the year. Some major events that I plan include 101 Week and the Science Formal!

VICE-PRESIDENT EXTERNAL

Name: Valmik Duvadie
Pronouns: he/ him
Year and Program: 4th year Biochemistry
Role: Works with other faculties and universities across Ontario to facilitate a good relationship between them and the SSA, as well as with all SSA registered clubs. They also serve as the main liaison between the SSA and the Board of Administrators (BOA) of the UOSU.

VICE-PRESIDENT ACADEMIC

Name: Lana Tran
Pronouns: she/her
Year and Program: 2nd year, Biomedical Sciences
Role: As VP Academic, my role is to organize academic related events such as the Wine and Cheese, award the SSA scholarships, sit on the Academic Fraud committee, and do my best to help with any academic issues that students might face.
Fun fact: I started skiing at Centre Vorlage when I was five years old, and now I’m a ski instructor for them!

VICE-PRESIDENT PHILANTROPIC

Name: Neil Bhatia

Year and Program: 2nd year Biomedical Sciences
Role: I'm in charge of all the philanthropic initiatives throughout the year. In the summer, I focus on our Shinerama campaign, culminating with Shine Day during 101 week. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you'd like to see in 2022-2023, send me an email, I'd love to talk with you!

Name: Julia Esber

Year and Program: 3rd year Biomedical Science
Role: I create all logos, designs, posters, and promotional materials for the SSA and work hand in hand with the Social Media Manager to maintain the SSA's social media outlets. I'm also in charge of chairing the Promotions committee in order to improve the SSA aesthetic.
Fun fact: I have the same birthday as Laura (former Academic Assistant) 👯‍♀️

VICE-PRESIDENT BILINGUALISM

Name: Mathys Nininahazwe
Pronouns: he/him
Year and Program: 3rd year Biomedical Science
Role: I translate many things from English to French for the SSA such as website information, emails, Instagram posts and meeting minutes. I am also in charge of reinforcing bilingualism throughout the SSA which includes making the SSA a more welcoming environment for Francophone students.
Fun Fact: I was born on the exact same day as Albert Einstein.

LOGISTICS COORDINATOR

Year and Program: 4th year Biopharmaceutical Science

Role: I oversee the acquisition, organization and transportation of all equipment and materials necessary for SSA functions. I'm responsible for the association's distribution of merchandise, venue and room bookings, food and clothing orders, and coordinate with the association council to ensure the success of all SSA events.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Name: Sophia Perrakis

Year and Program: 3rd year Biochemistry

Role: They are responsible for the administration and training of all SSA volunteers in preparation for, and during, 101 Week. A few key aspects of my role include creating the 101 Week Guide application, selecting Science Guides and instructing / overseeing the selected Guides throughout 101 Week.

Fun fact: I am a third-degree black belt in Shotokan karate! Guides, stay in line or you know what happens >:)
