Scholarships and Grants
EVERY YEAR THE SSA AWARDS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS IN THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE. THERE ARE 13 AWARDS RANGING IN VALUE FROM $500 TO $1500, WHICH ARE BASED ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, AND FINANCIAL NEED.

To see which scholarships are available, and to apply, you must log in to the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool through UOZone. Recipients are selected by uOttawa staff members chosen by the Financial Aid and Awards Office who may also request additional support from members of our sponsorship committee.
Applications will close on November 3rd, 2025 at 11:59pm. These applications will be reviewed, and successful applicants can expect to hear back sometime during the Winter 2025 semester.
SCIENCE STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION GRANT FUND
The SSA allocates several thousand dollars annually to science students to help finance their participation in conferences, competitions and other scientific/research endeavours. Applications are received throughout the year and are assessed by a review committee to help offset the cost of transportation, accommodation, event fees, etc. The SSA reserves the right to approve or reject funding proposals. The amount allocated may vary student to student and may not match total funding requested. Please note that costs associated directly with the initiative (conference entrance, posters, etc) are more likely to be covered than transportation or accommodation costs. The SSA may choose to profile its successful applicants through any of its media.
Eligibility
In order to qualify for a monetary grant, a successful applicant must:
Be an undergraduate student registered in the Faculty of Science at the time of the receipt of the application
Be attending an event or cause of scientific nature (i.e. a conference, a poster competition, etc.)
If applicable, the event must occur within the summer following the student’s graduation from their undergraduate degree. Although priority will be given to applicants requesting funds for events prior to May 1st of their graduating year
If applicable, the research presented by the student must have been completed during their undergraduate career

Applications must be submitted either through the Grant Fund google form (preferred), electronically to president@ssa-aes.com, or sent to the SSA office as a hard copy during open office hours to the attention of the president.
The successful applicant will be required to provide a brief report after the event takes place. Original receipts of expenses are required after the event. This report must highlight the successes of the event and describe how the experience benefited the applicant.
SCIENCE STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION STUDENT SUPPORT & HARDSHIP FUND
The Science Students’ Association (SSA) has created the Student Support Fund to provide timely, compassionate support to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science who may be experiencing sudden financial hardship. Applications are received throughout the year and are assessed by a review committee to help assist Faculty of Science undergraduate students undergoing hardship while facing significant and urgent financial difficulties. This fund exists to help reduce immediate financial barriers that may affect a student’s ability to continue their studies safely and successfully.
The SSA reserves the right to approve or reject support applications. The amount provided may vary student to student and may not match total funding requested. The SSA’s decision on the awarding of funds is final. The SSA may choose to profile its successful applicants through any of its media.
Eligibility

Be an undergraduate student registered in the Faculty of Science at the time of the receipt of the application
Write a letter demonstrating their financial need caused by hardship and/or an unexpected and urgent situation.
Provide consent permitting the request of supporting documentation, where necessary, to substantiate the student’s circumstances.
