Science Preparatory Workshop

Tuesday, August 27 to Friday, August 30, 2019

You will begin your studies at the University of Ottawa in September, and we want to help you succeed!

This four-day workshop focuses on key abilities and knowledge to help you succeed when you begin your studies in the Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa. All students taking a science program can benefit from this workshop.

The goal of the workshop is to help you:

  • Get familiarized with the campus, find your classrooms, and learn how to find and use the resources available such as the Student Academic Success Service (SASS), the Science Students’ Association (SSA), help centers, and the library.

  • Gets tips on how to take notes, to study, and to prepare for exams effectively in your upcoming courses.

  • Learn what to expect from your studies in terms of workload and required time commitment, as well as how to manage your time and stress.

  • Meet other incoming students to the Faculty of Science as well as upper year student mentors and some of your future professors.

  • Learn about the many opportunities that exist such as research programs and extracurricular activities.

  • Familiarize yourself with university level laboratories by attending introductory lab sessions.

“The Science preparatory workshop was very beneficial.  I learned new study methods that I used throughout my whole first year at University.  We received a lot of extremely useful information on the resources offered by the Faculty.  I met and built great friendship with other students.”

- Niève Séguin, 4th year biomedical science student

“This workshop was amazing! I feel so much better about the campus, lectures, and labs now that I’ve had some more in-depth, first-hand experience with how these things work at University. Thank you so much for organizing this and making it available to students!”
