Bonjour à toutes et à tous,

Je m’appelle Irina Iankova, je suis étudiante en première année de biochimie et je suis actuellement une représentante de première année à l'AÉS. Je suis très heureuse d’annoncer ma candidature au poste de Vice-Présidente aux Affaires Bilingues pour l’année académique 2026–2027 !

Ayant immigré au Canada il y a sept ans, je suis fière de dire que j’ai appris l’anglais et le français à partir de zéro — ce sont toutes les deux mes langues secondes. En vivant dans un environnement multiculturel, j’ai réalisé à quel point il est facile de perdre une langue, même ta langue maternelle, et comment important est de la preserver. Cette réalité a renforcé mon attachement profond au multiculturalisme et au bilinguisme.

Le bilinguisme n’est pas seulement un poste auquel je postule — il fait partie de mon identité. Je suis passionnée par la création d’un environnement inclusif et accueillant, où chaque étudiant(e) se sent à l’aise de s’exprimer dans la langue de son choix.

Au cours de mon parcours, je me suis activement impliquée dans des initiatives bilingues : j’ai travaillé comme traductrice, fondé un club de tutorat en français et participé à un comité bilingue cette année.

Je tiens sincèrement à renforcer la présence et l’engagement bilingue au faculté de sciences, et je suis convaincue de pouvoir avoir un impact concret en tant que Vice-Présidente aux Affaires Bilingues.

Hi everyone!

My name is Irina Iankova, and I’m a first-year Biochemistry student currently serving as your First-Year Representative on the SSA. I’m excited to announce that I am running for the position of Vice-President of Bilingual Affairs for the 2026–2027 academic year!

Having immigrated to Canada seven years ago, I am proud to say that I learned both English and French from scratch — they are both my second languages. Living in a multicultural environment has shown me how easy it is to lose a language, even your mother tongue, and how important it is to preserve it. This experience has shaped my deep appreciation for multilingualism and cultural diversity.

Bilingualism is not just a role I am applying for — it is something that truly represents who I am. I am passionate about fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where all students feel comfortable expressing themselves in the language of their choice.

Throughout my time here, I have actively contributed to bilingual initiatives. I have worked as a translator, founded a French tutoring club, and served on a bilingual committee at SSA this year. 

I genuinely care about strengthening bilingual engagement on campus, and I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact as your Vice-President of Bilingual Affairs.
