Who We Are

At its core, the SSA exists to make your experience as a science student the best it can be. Whether that’s through academic support, leadership opportunities, social events, or simply creating a welcoming community you can call home!

About Us

About Us ⚛

The Science Students’ Association (SSA) is the official undergraduate student association for the Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa. We’re a group of elected science students working for science students. We represent your interests, advocate on your behalf, and look to build a stronger community across all science programs. Whether you're just entering University, or in the last year of your undergraduate journey, as long as you're in the Faculty of Science, you’re automatically part of the SSA! With your automatic membership, you gain full access to everything we offer: services, events, advocacy, financial support, and more.

Our Mission

Our Mission ⚛

Our mission is to enrich the academic, social, and personal lives of science undergraduates by providing access to resources, supporting student initiatives, and creating spaces for connection. We value transparency, inclusion, and accountability, and we believe every science student deserves to feel supported, represented, and empowered during their time at uOttawa. At the heart of what we do is a commitment to giving back to students through advocacy, funding opportunities, and services that make your life easier both inside and outside the classroom.

What We Do

What We Do ⚛

Representation & Advocacy: SSA representatives sit on Faculty Council, Senate, Curriculum Committee, Academic Fraud Committee, and more. We ensure science students always have a seat at the table when decisions are made.

Clubs & Events: We fund and support numerous official science clubs, while organizing flagship events like Science 101 Week, the annual Science Formal, and philanthropy campaigns such as Shinerama. These moments bring science students together and make your university experience more memorable.

Services for Students: Need a lab coat, goggles, a molecular model kit, or even just a locker to store your textbooks? We’ve got you covered. We also offer science merchandise and year-round services that keep students connected and supported.

Scholarships & Funding: Each year, we give back tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships, grants, and conference funding to recognize excellence, support student research, and help those in financial need.
